So! In the fun of hearing/seeing things suggesting that not all of our cars are up to "Par" at the Wednesday meet. I had to put this little fun thread together in hopes that everyone will remember that no matter "what" you drive, as long as you are "passionate" about it. This is the group/forum/meet for you I love my "Beater" It is a simple statement, I'm sure all of us at one point in time had a glorified "Beater" car. And no matter what broke on it, you still LOVED it and think about it every day. So show us a picture of your beater and tell us it's story
This is my 1990 Toyota Celica GTS. I called it Shini (Shinigami) This is the car I bought to learn more about cars, It was rough around the edges, but I dreamed of putting the Alltrac motor into it. It was red, and missing most of its clear coat. It was riced out with the clear corner lights, a led shift knob and a switch to change the color the dash lite up. This switch also shocked Erik a couple of times until he redid the soldering We put car seat covers on it to hide the cracked leather seats, the rear view mirror fell off, the brake line cracked and put brake fluid in Erik's eye, and our friend broke 3 of the 5 tire studs on the rear passenger wheel. The battery only lasted 30 minutes before you had to recharged it. Etc. I could probably go on and on BUT I got to learn how to drive manual in this car, I got to go to U Pull R Parts for the first time because of this car, and I still loved the car even when it stranded us. In the end it was donated to New Gate, which is a automotive school for people who can't afford to go to school. They survive off of donated cars, that the students then learn to fix. After that they donate the car to someone who can't afford a car. It is a great idea and though I was sad to see the truck take Shini away.. I will always love my Celica Beater.
This is my beater/daily I bought it primarily because I needed a "reliable daily car" and so I didn't have to drive Cheese's yellow beetle that smells like crayons. I went to a dealership and found this car sitting in the lot I was shocked that it had the 1.8t and it wasn't a gti, and it had 4 doors needless to say I walked out of there with the keys too it. Now somehow realiable daily driver and Volkswagen didn't quite click in my brain and I have had all sorts of problems with the car. Literally after turning out of the lot not 3 minutes after signing papers, I threw a CEL and so I went back and asked wtf was going on $500 later coil packs were replaced. It needs tires, new suspension, bushings for the control arms, I have redone the oil pan once and fixed the stripped drain plug, and the exhaust rusted out, I have burned out at least 4 or five lightbulbs, A/c doesn't really work at all, and Its FWD. That said as many problems as I have had with the car I hate it but I love to beat on it it goes everywhere, through big puddles hauls things like 4 engines an rx7 subframe, full exhausts, and a FRP rx7 hood. Anyways here pictures of my daily gweneth
This is my beater. I named her Jill. It's a 97 model, but it does the job Me and this bad boy have been through some tough times together, but we always get the job done. I remember one time we had less than an hour to make 54 birthday cakes... Let's just say things got messy. Rarely does it let me down... only one time I can think of. It was spring of '04. Calm morning on a beach in Kuwait. One of the locals wanted cookies, so me and Jill got started. Things were going great until... I dropped Jill. Her upper-handle cracked right in two. The local Kuwatians were getting pretty pissed I was taking so long, so me and (injured) Jill just kept trucking. I looked down and noticed that the crack in Jill's handle had cut my hand pretty good. "WHY NOW, JILL?!?! WHY NOW!?!?" I exclaimed. The locals looked at me as if I was high on a fat bag of angel dust, when suddenly, I had a genius idea. My other beater! That's Cleatus, my other beater. I took Cleatus and wrapped him around Jill's injury, and continued with the cookies. Before you know it, all the locals are happy with the choco-chip goodness I gave them, and I have this great story I've been DYING to tell! THANKS FOR READING!
