  1. No problem man! Do you have the 4.0L in your ZJ? If you do, you should be able to run the exhaust the same way I did. If you want to run a more factory style exhaust off of the turbo, you would have to make a downpipe that dumps back under the truck so you can run the exhaust out the back/side/etc. If you look at the pictures on the first page of this thread you can see how I ran my exhaust from the manifold to the turbo. I will be doing a battery relocation and moving my turbo to pretty much right behind the passenger headlight and fabbing a downpipe and running a more "normal" exhaust for trail runs.

By all means, feel free to ask questions! I am a firm believer that there need to be more people adding power to these motors besides stroking them.

Decided for sure to get to Winterfest again this year.

    LET THE MAD RUSH BEGIN!!!!!

Are you using the stock fuel maps? Have you done any other fuel upgrades besides the pump and fpr? And did you retard the timing at all? If you posted it and I missed it, sorry for the repeat. I'm going to be doing a very similar build to my $500 xj this winter and I want to start collecting parts now. I am going to attempt to cut a hole in my hood and do a top mount intercooler. Have you ever had any heat problems with the blow -by and factory radiator?

  4. Yep still using the stock fuel maps. Pump and FPR are the only fuel upgrades because of the fuel cell I used. Did nothing with timing.

A top mount would be a good idea since there isn't much room in the engine bay for anything besides an air-water intercooler and running piping for a front mount can be troublesome.

As far as heat, I never really had a problem except for sitting in traffic on a 90+ degree day with stupid humidity. I did raise the rear of the hood about 1 1/2" to help with the cooling at slow speeds and the give me a hair more clearance under the hood since my turbo sat a little higher than I wanted it to.

If you have any questions along the way feel free to hit me up and I will try and help the best I can.

  5. This will be the last update for the XJ as it has long been retired. Here she is as she sits as of last winter.

Super rusty rear uniframe rails were causing the rear end to shift as I was driving down the road so it is retired. I will be throwing up a new build thread for my latest project soon.

Sorry to bring up such an old post. Im planning on doing this to my 87 4.0 MJ and i was wondering every single part i will need to complete this project. do i need a intercooler? i dont see one in the post... how much boost can i run on my stock 4.0? Thanks!

  7. It's cool man. I don't have any experience with boosting the older Renix style engines which is what you should have in your MJ unless you updated to the newer fuel injection.

I pretty much list every part you need short of misc exhaust tubing since that is going to change depending on where you want to mount the turbo.

I did not run an intercooler on my setup due to being lazy and not finding a good location to mount it and route the piping.

From what I ran and what others have told me they were running, it seems like 8 PSI is about the most you want to run without other major upgrades.
