Because why not? Rules: 1. Thread is specifically to discuss anything and everything related to guns or ammo. 2. Now you can discuss but not argue about things related to the topic (be nice) Go...
'MERICA! There are the two that I own. The larger Springfield XDm 9mm is the nightstand gun (in case the wife has to use it), the smaller Springfield XDs .45 is my daily carry weapon.
And while I'm at it, I might as well be the first redneck (Yes, I'm Asian), NRA, gun nut to talk about gun control. Guns are dangerous, period. It doesn't matter how many bullets I'm allowed to carry, or what size they are, or what type of gun they come out of. Guns were designed for killing, regardless of magazine size. Trying to keep certain guns and certain magazines out of people's hands it misguided and will not stop tragedies like Sandy Hook from happening. Look at the Virginia Tech shooting. Most of that took place using a .22 handgun. For those of you not very familiar with guns, a .22 is a very small caliber round, generally use for target shooting and considered by most to be a poor choice in defensive rounds. So, one of the smallest caliber guns caused one of the most deadly mass shootings in American history. On top of that, he did it with a vest full of standard sized 10 round magazines, not some 30 round banana mag. Furthermore, as a civilian who has no military or police training, I can drop a magazine from my handguns, have it reloaded and ready to fire in just under 1 second. A 30 round mag saves someone 3 seconds of reloading? If no one else in the area is armed, 3 seconds isn't going to make or break the situation. It's still going to be horrible. The only thing that will stop an armed psycho is someone else who is armed, be it cop or civilian. That said, we do need to restrict access to guns so that they remain out of the hands of the mentally ill and criminals. However, we should not be doing so at the cost of law abiding citizens. And I do think we can accomplish this through stronger, and uniform, background checks; as well as ease of access to medical records that have already been proposed by President Obama.
I like this Topic That being said... I need more guns and a conceal permit then I'll be a happy lady Erik and I have discussed a ton on the gun control laws, and I totally agree with you. Guns are Dangerous, they are weapons, they can kill.. but not by themselves. I learned at a very early age to handle and shoot a gun, heck we had school outings for just that in middle school. And I think that alone makes me understand and respect them more. And why have a thirty round mag, when I can carry 4 hand guns that hold more then that and can be dual wielded This is what I think we need more of.... Proper education of guns to people who want it. And teaching our kids at a young age how to handle them. http://girlsjustwannahaveguns.com/2...ut-for-free-concealed-handgun-license-course/
I learned to handle, shoot, and care for firearms in the Scouting program, and despite not owning any currently it's knowledge that I'm glad I have.
It's a misconception based on something that used to be true. When the idea of civilians carrying pistols was first introduced in the state of MN it actually was concealed carry only and the requirements to get a permit were more strict. The law was then repealed a few years later. A new (the current statute) law was passed under which it is just a permit to carry a pistol. Meaning you can open carry if you chose to. It's a good discussion to have. There are advantaged and disadvantages of both that people should take in to consideration when they carry. Open Carry +Faster access to your weapon +May defuse a situation before it even starts +Easier/more comfortable to carry -Ignorant people will freak out at the sight of a fire arm -Someone with intent on doing harm knows you should be the first victim they shoot at. Concealed +No harassment from cops, or uneducated civilians +Not the first to get shot at! -Slower access to your weapon -Limits what you can carry to what you can conceal
Well I guess its time for me to contribute. Most of what I have learned I got from scouts and my mother strangely enough. I can honestly say I don't have nearly as much of a broad experience with firearms, compared to many people I know. Something I hope to remedy soon.
I do know it is a "permit to carry" in MN. I'm also from WI, where it is a Conceal permit so i grew up hearing about stuff for conceal permits. Terminology wise and for people who maybe don't know the laws, I do say "Conceal Permit". Bad on my part. And yes. I'll still dual wield... just cause I want to But it is more along the lines of the speed to reload vs speed to grab another gun. If you know you're running out of ammo as you fire away, you can be reaching for another gun that is fully loaded. I'm going to try a 6+ pistol load of for airsoft.... Erik says it will be too heavy for me to carry, lol. Oh well. I still like the idea.

So been doing some digging on current intermediate/battle rifle calibers in use by various military forces around the world. So far it seems like... 5.56x45/.223 7.62x51/.308 5.45x39 7.62x39 5.8x42 Covers most countries?
